![]() ![]() Nick, who is our POV character, was very well developed and fleshed out, but i never really felt we got a good sense of who Brady is? we only really learn about Nick’s idealized version of Brady until right at the end of the story, like the last ten percent, where we suddenly get an info dump of his backstory and his various issues with his sexuality etc. i’d say this was written more as a sports comedy than an actual romance, though, so if romance is what you’re looking for here, just keep that in mind. a lot of the banter (especially the cousin stuff) in the first half of the book could have been easily trimmed without really affecting the story at all. there really was no need for this story to be 400+ pages when the romance doesn’t even really start until the 70% mark, tbh. This was actually really cute, but it was also waaay too long. ![]() ![]() ![]() Along the way, Ned picks up a tree sidekick, a wizard versed in the ludicrous art of pun magic, and a healthy respect for both princesses and dragons alike.Ĭan he make the world outside of the reservation safe for the princesses? This really helps sell the angle of this anthology being about more than just an assortment of individuals, but a multi-faceted and diverse community (be it racially, economically, etc.). As for the vignettes themselves, one of the strongest elements at play is how each one focuses on characters from different walks of life. DC Noir captures the area perfectly for a truly immersive experience. ![]() To forgo any attempt at simulation and ground a fictional work in a real world this is the fundamental backbone of the sociologically-minded film noir and I love it. Whether it's through Sidney Lumet's cold and muddy New York City, David Simon's inner-city Baltimore corners, or Michael Mann's near-insane dedication on display in Public Enemies, reality can only be shown to an audience, cast, and crew by way of this kind of authenticity. More precisely, it's the shooting on location that makes work like this truly shine. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Insert The Stars Within You and the amazing depth that Juliana McCarthy goes into.
